If we were having coffee – June

If we were having coffee, we’d be in my apartment sitting around the Ikea dining table. I wish I could offer you something fancy from a Nespresso machine but I think you’ve already guessed from the Ikea table that all I have is instant coffee. Oh, but you won’t notice it for long because I’m an expert at distraction (well, all parents have to hone this survival skill).

Kid: But I want that (two-hundred-*areyoucrazy*-ringgit) Elsa dress now. Now! I want it! I WANT IT!

Me: Oh look, Frozen toothbrush… and coloring book…. and tissue…. and the saleslady is going to scold you if you don’t stop making a fuss.

So, yes, look at my coffee mugs! I just got them from the Japanese crockery fair near my apartment last week. Finally, a set of matching mugs and pot. And I bet when you see the cutest mini creamer pot I’ve just put on the table, you’d forget all about inferior coffee in front of you. It’s a sitting cat and as you hold the tail and tilt it forward, milk streams out the mouth. Now, you’re either squealing in disgust because it looks like the cat is vomiting into your coffee… or in enthrallment because seriously, it’s cute.

You know what, I’ve been doing this blog for three months now and though I love writing, I never expected that it would keep surprising me the way it does. When I’m sitting in front of the laptop with my just-got-out-of-bed hair (not the sexy version) and my cuppa, it feels unreal that my posts will find an audience.  But my close friends have become my biggest cheerleaders. Friends I haven’t spoken to in a long time have reached out to me, telling me how much they enjoyed reading my stories. Fellow bloggers from all over the world have become virtual friends when we realized that under the different hair or skin color, we’re all not that different after all. It’s gratifying to know I’m not just syiok sendiri (hmmm, what’s the English term for that?Narcissistic?).

So, thank you. For taking the time to read my ramblings, for leaving a comment or messaging me. And for stopping by for coffee.  Come by again next time and I’ll show you the dessert plates with the sakura design 😉

Yes, distraction is a skill parents must learn early! I think the cat creamer sounds adorable 🙂

I love the sound of the cat creamer. You made me laugh out loud at the vomiting into the coffee and I am here trying to pretend I am working – not commenting on posts. You blew my cover but I don’t mind. The image was great. Is your term for narcissistic Indian or Japanese? Glad you are getting a lot out of your writing, virtual friendships and old friendships. I too have found blogging a wonderful medium. Look forward to drinking coffee with you again.

Haha, distraction, that is too funny.. I can imagine it’s a good tool for parents.. And the cat creamer comment was hilarious! I agree, I SO love and am thankful for all the friends I’ve made on this blogging journey. 🙂 Thanks for the coffee!
